Land Rover is gearing up to bring back the Defender SUV this September. The boxy SUV will return after a hiatus of three years and will most likely be built on Discovery’s JLR D7u platform.
The British heavy-duty carmaker has retained the original boxy design of the car, giving it 18-inch wheels as well as a chunky bonnet. It also gets a steep roof along with straight lines complimenting the side. It is also expected to be offered in three-door and five-door layouts.
Mechanically, Land Rover is expected to power the Defender with a 2-litre diesel engine. It could also get a hybrid powertrain, though nothing has been confirmed yet. Being a dedicated off-roader, the Defender is also expected to be loaded with features such as the Terrain Response System, a low range gearbox, locking differentials and hill descent control among others.
JLR has not yet finalised an official date to unveil the Defender, but it is safe to expect an unveiling later this year. It is likely to go on sale by early 2020. Since the vehicle is still under speculation, an official price tag is also yet to be announced.
