After Hurun, Forbes also names Patanjali's Balkrishna among India's richest

His rise in economic stature is owed to the success of Patanjali Ayurved Limited, which he co-founded alongside Baba Ramdev

Acharya Balkrishna, MD of Patanjali Ayurved Limited is the 19th richest Indian, according to  Forbes magazine. As per the India Rich List 2017, published by the magazine Balkrishna, who is a close aide of Baba Ramdev has a net worth of approximately Rs 43,000 crore.

The list which was headed by business tycoons such as Mukesh Ambani, Azim Premji and the Hinduja brothers has revealed that Balkrishna’s net worth, which was just around Rs 16,000 crore in 2016 has seen a growth of over 250 percent in the last one year. He has also improved his ranking from last year’s 48th position to make it to the top 20 in the new list.

45-year-old Balkrishna also made it to the Hurun India Rich List recently where he was placed eighth position.

His rise in economic stature is owed to the success of Patanjali Ayurved Limited, which he co-founded alongside Baba Ramdev. The FMCG company has in recent years shown large-scale growth in popularity among customers and market presence.

Based out of Haridwar, the company manufactures and sells goods ranging from food and beverages to ayurvedic medicines. It has also forayed recently into security services.

The company is looking to venture into newer categories in the upcoming years. Moneycontrol had reported earlier that the company plans to enter the garment industry and its aim is to double its turnover in the coming days.
