Sun TV surges 11% on exit polls; DMK win may aid ad revenue

Shares of Sun TV Network surged 11 percent intraday on Tuesday as most exit polls have predicted that the DMK-Congress alliance may win the state elections in Tamil Nadu. Chennai-based Sun TV owned by Kalanithi Maran (grandnephew of DMK President M Karunanidhi) is seen gaining high revenue growth when DMK is in power. In FY11 when DMK was in power, its ad revenue growth was at 23 percent which fell to -2 percent in FY12 when Jayalalitha became the Chief Minister. Thereafter, Sun TV's ad revenue has never touched double digit growth except in FY13 hitting 11 percent. However, in FY14 ad revenue growth was at 1.6 percent. In FY15, ad revenue growth was at 6.5 percent. Meanwhile, C-Voter predicts Jayalalithaa will buck poll history and come back to power for a second consecutive term. While Times Now C-Voter predicted only 78 seats for the DMK-Congress, Chanakya , on the other extreme, predicted 130-150 seats for the alliance in the 234-seat assembly .None of the exit polls predicted any substantial gains for Vijayakanth's DMDK alliance or for the Bharatiya Janata Party. In 2011, the AIADMK had been voted in with 203 seats. No party or front has won two consecutive terms in Tamil Nadu over the last four decades.At 09:51 hrs Sun TV Network was quoting at Rs 433.70, up Rs 40.45, or 10.29 percent on the BSE.
