JBM enters waste-to-energy biz, signs MoU with Haryana govt

JBM Group on Tuesday said it has signed a concession agreement with the Haryana government to build and operate a 5 MW power plant that will treat 500 tonne of municipal waste per day, marking its foray into the waste to energy sector.

The project will be developed by JBM Environment Management at an investment of Rs 176 crore and will entail door to door collection of waste, its transportation, construction and operation of the power plant, the firm said.

"Land has already been allotted by the state government. The project will help dispose of 500 tonnes of solid waste per day generated from Sonepat cluster, which comprises of Sonepat, Panipat, Samalkha and Gannaur," the company said.

JBM Group has roped in EKOLOG, which has more than 30 years of experience in operating integrated waste management systems in Europe and Asia for this project, it said.

"Our focus has been to ensure sustainable and green environment for the society and country at large, therefore, all new businesses have been around the same whether you look at electric buses, solar energy and now waste to energy," company's Executive Director Nishant Arya said.
