The CFA Society India is hosting its 8th India Investment Conference in Mumbai today. In an interview to CNBC-TV18, Richard Koo, Chief Economist at Nomura Research Institute shared his views and readings on the global economy from the sidelines of the conference.
Koo said that economies are improving and therefore demand for commodities will increase. However, inflation rates are still low in most of the advanced countries.
Talking about the dollar, he said, "Donald Trump is keeping the dollar from strengthening - that gives a room for Federal Reserve to raise interest rates and normalize monetary policy. So I do not think one likes the other in any major ways but it just so happened that by Trump keeping the dollar from appreciating that is allowing the Fed to normalize monetary policy."
