Coronavirus News LIVE Updates: Today is the 109th day since India implemented a nationwide lockdown, to curb the novel coronavirus pandemic. India has so far recorded 8,20,916 cases, which includes 22,123 deaths. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Gujarat have reported the highest number of cases. India's recovery rate stands at 62.78 percent.

Globally, there have been over 1.2 crore confirmed cases of COVID-19. More than 5.5 lakh people have died so far. Catch the highlights here:

    Superstar Amitabh Bachchan has been admitted to Mumbai's Nanavati Hospital after he tested positive for COVID-19. The acting veteran informed about the development in a tweet:"I have tested CoviD positive .. shifted to Hospital .. hospital informing authorities .. family and staff undergone tests , results awaited .. All that have been in close proximity to me in the last 10 days are requested to please get themselves tested !"

    In view of the alarming COVID-19 situation,KarnatakaChief Minister BSYediyurappaannounced aseven-day lockdown in Bengaluru. The lockdown will be effective from 8 pm on July 14 till 5 am on July 23. During the one-week lockdown period, all essential services will be allowed to function inBengaluru. Notably, the decision comes days after a 33-hour strict lockdown “with no exceptions” was imposed onBengaluru.

    'Total' lockdown extended in Thane district, Navi Mumbai, UMC

    A lockdown with minimum exemptions in place in Thane district, excluding city limits, and Navi Mumbai municipal areas was extended onJuly 11, till July 19 due to rise in coronavirus cases over the past few days, officials said.

    The order for Thane district was issued by Collector Rajesh Narvekar and Municipal Commissioner AB Misal announced the extension for Navi Mumbai, they added.

    India's COVID-19 recoveries cross 5-lakh mark, recovery rate at 62.78%

    The number of COVID-19 patients who have recovered in the country crossed the five-lakh mark on Saturday, the Union Health ministry said and attributed it to a number of measures taken by the Centre and the state governments, including implementation of containment zones and surveillance activities. India's COVID-19 tallysurged to 8,20,916 on Saturday while the death toll climbed to 22,123 with 519 people succumbing to the disease in 24 hours, according to the health ministry's data updated at 8 am.

    A series of proactive, preemptive and coordinated measures have been taken by the Centre and the state governments for containment and prevention of COVID-19, it said.
